World Environment Day 2026: The Practical Steps Kenro Is Taking to Reduce Waste

World Environment Day on 5th June is an opportunity for businesses around the world to reflect on how they can reduce waste, improve efficiency, and make more environmentally conscious decisions.

At Kenro, we know that sustainability is an ongoing process rather than a finished goal. As a company working with fragile products such as photo frames, photo albums, and homeware, there are practical challenges involved in balancing product protection, transportation, packaging, and waste reduction. However, we believe that small, realistic improvements across the business can make a meaningful difference over time.

Rather than making large claims, we are focused on practical changes that help us operate in a more environmentally friendly and responsible way wherever possible.

Reducing Packaging Waste Wherever We Can

Packaging plays an important role in protecting delicate products during transit, but we are continually reviewing how we can reduce unnecessary waste without compromising safe delivery.

One of the ways we are doing this is by reusing and recycling packaging materials as much as possible throughout our warehouse and distribution processes. Incoming cartons and protective fill materials from suppliers are often reused internally rather than immediately discarded.

We have also invested in a cardboard cutting machine, which allows old cardboard packaging to be converted into new protective packaging material. This helps us reduce waste while making better use of materials already within the business.

In addition, we are actively working to reduce our use of bubble wrap and polystyrene wherever possible, while still ensuring our products arrive safely and securely. Damaged deliveries and returns can create additional waste and transport emissions, so maintaining appropriate packaging protection remains essential for fragile items such as glass photo frames.

Encouraging More Sustainable Packaging Practices

We continue to work with suppliers to encourage reductions in excessive packaging and to explore recyclable and paper-based packaging alternatives where suitable.

Optimising shipment sizes is another small but important step. By reducing wasted space in parcels and consolidating deliveries where practical, we aim to improve efficiency and help reduce unnecessary transport emissions.

These changes may seem small individually, but together they contribute towards reducing avoidable waste across the supply chain.

Reducing Waste Across the Workplace

Environmental responsibility is not only about packaging. We are also reviewing day-to-day operations across the business to identify practical ways to reduce energy usage and unnecessary waste.

Some of the changes we have implemented include:

  • Reducing the number of office rooms in regular use to lower electricity and heating consumption
  • Printing less and using more digital catalogues and documents where possible
  • Encouraging hybrid meetings and video calls to help reduce unnecessary travel
  • Office recycling initiatives for cardboard, paper, and other materials
  • Recycling damaged frames and materials where possible instead of immediate disposal

Our sales representatives also drive plug-in hybrid vehicles, helping to reduce fuel consumption during travel across the UK.

Designing Products Made to Last

At Kenro, we believe longevity also matters when it comes to sustainability.

Our photo frames and photo albums are designed to be long-lasting products that can be used and enjoyed for years. In a world increasingly shaped by disposable consumer culture, we believe there is value in creating products intended to preserve memories and stand the test of time.

Durable products can help reduce unnecessary replacement and waste, supporting a more mindful approach to purchasing and ownership.

Continuous Improvement Rather Than Perfection

We recognise that sustainability is a journey and that there is always more to learn and improve. As a business, we continue to review our operations, packaging, logistics, and workplace practices to identify realistic ways to reduce waste and improve efficiency over time.

This World Environment Day, we are proud of the practical steps we have taken so far and are committed to continuing that progress wherever possible.
